Challenges

Excavating a fortress, particularly at a fortress that is also a poorly preserved site, presents a set of specific challenges that archaeologists must navigate. Some of these challenges include:

  1. Structural Integrity: A pporly preserved fortress may have significant structural instability, with walls, foundations.
  2. Limited Stratigraphic Layers: Poor preservation often means that the layers of archaeological deposits are disturbed, fragmented, or missing entirely.
  3. Accessibility: The location of a fortress on top of a hill can make it difficult to access the site, especially if there are steep slopes or rugged terrain.
  4. Stability: Hilltop fortresses are often built on rocky or uneven terrain, which can make excavation and stabilization efforts more complex..
